Councillor Norman Nunn-Price died today.

TRIBUTES have been paid to a Hayes councillor who died today.

Councillor Norman Nunn-Price (Lab), has served on the council for 14 years after being elected to represent the Bourne ward in 1994, which is now South Ruislip.

The 81-year-old, also served as a councillor in Botwell, and more recently, Townfield wards and was leader of the Labour group from 2002 to 2003.

Councillor Anthony Way, leader of the Labour group, said: "I am extremely saddened to hear of Norman's death and our sympathies go to his family and friends during this very difficult time.

"His death will be an immense loss felt by all of us, especially those people within the community in which he served and whom he had dedicated his life to serving."

He added: "Norman was a distinguished public servant and one of the elder statesmen of the council. He was someone much loved by all sides of the council, always available and someone people would turn to for advice.

"He was a very good friend and colleague and he will be dearly missed."

Councillor Ray Puddifoot, Leader of the council. said: "On behalf of the administration and all council staff, I would express my condolences to Norman's family and friends.

"Norman served Hillingdon Council and the residents of the borough with dedication and distinction over many years. He was one of life's true gentlemen and will be sadly missed by us all."

Cllr Nunn-Price was a retired scientist and magistrate, and was born in Cardiff.

During 2005 and 2006, he was also a member of the Community Partnerships and Environment Overview and Scrutiny committees at the council.

Councillor Mike Cox, leader of the Liberal Democrat group, said: ""I would like to extend my sympathies to Norman's family and friends at this very sad time. I knew Norman both professionally and socially and he was a gentleman in every way. A very intelligent and insightful man, he was a pleasure to work with at all times and will be remembered fondly."

Councillor Brian Crowe, Mayor of Hillingdon, said: "It is with the greatest sadness that one of my first duties as Mayor of Hillingdon is to pay tribute to Norman Nunn-Price.

"I would like to offer my sympathies and condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and to everyone who knew him. Norman dedicated his whole life to serving the public.

"He served his country during the Second World War and continued that public service as a councillor. Norman was someone held in the highest regard by everyone and he will be sadly missed."
