HILLINGDON residents have been invited to report environmental problems to the council.

The Street Champions Scheme involves residents looking out for graffiti, abandoned cars, damaged pavements, litter and noise pollution so council staff can tackle the problems.

Anyone interested in volunteering can contact James Burgess on 01895 558136.

It seems bizarre that requests are made for the council tax payers of Hillingdon to report the issues when this should be carried out by neighbourhood policing & council staff. Where are they and why are they not doing this???? Maybe soon we will have to carry all our domestic rubbish to the dump, fix our own streetlamps, clean the streets and then if we have time ,police them!!!! Once again it raises the question. Are we getting the services we are paying for???? I think not!!!!

I am a street champion. I have told the Council twice in the last week that there is litter all over the place in my local park, overflowing bins and food debris around them. Have they done anything about it? No of course they havent and in the meantime the rubbish gets worse.

Yet another tick in the box political scheme being funded by the tax payers. If street champions are expected to do the work of the council then lets see some council staff being made redundant

Street Champions play an important role acting as the ‘eyes and ears’ in the local community and we are delighted that so many residents are taking pride in their local environment by becoming volunteers. We now have over 3,000 Street Champions borough wide helping to make Hillingdon a cleaner, greener and safer borough.

All Street Champion reports are logged through the council’s Customer Contact Centre and are actioned as soon as possible.

The litter bins at the Willow Tree open space are emptied once a week and if calls are received reporting a problem, the council endeavours to clear the area as soon as possible. The litter problems to which you refer too are scheduled to be cleared away today.

The litter bins are NEVER emptied once a week, Constant calls to the Council about them are Ignored.

Street Champions are just another silly waste of tax payers money

I agree with the comments above. The bins in question are not emptied weekly and the park is not maintained as it should be. The bins overflow, the shrubbery is overgrown and you never see the park wardens. The council are not interested unless the facts are published for all to see!!!! Then you see a short burst of maintenance...
